There is a storage quota for EdShare for
all faculty, staff and students. Every file that is saved
to your personal EdShare folder, your department EdShare
folder, and to any special shares (such as class shares
or shares for special projects) count against your quota.
Once you have exceeded your quota you will no longer be
able to save new files to EdShare or make changes to existing
files on EdShare. For students, this means you will not
be able to save files to your personal folder when you
are in labs or classrooms on campus.
How much file space do Students
have available on EdShare?
All students automatically receive 250 MB of storage space on EdShare. This
storage space may be used to store files of any type. When you log into computers
in labs and classrooms on campus and save to your personal folder you are storing
files on EdShare. If you exceed your quota you will no longer be able to save
files to this folder.
How will I know when I am over quota?
If you exceed your quota, you will receive a daily email that states your quota
and your current space usage.
How much file
space do Faculty and Staff have available on EdShare?
All faculty and staff automatically receive 500 MB of storage space on
EdShare. This storage space may be used to store files of any type. Faculty
and staff may request additional storage space up to a total of 1000
MB (1 GB). If you need additional space, you can fill out and submit
an EdShare
Quota Increase Form. Requests for an increase above 1 GB will need
to be approved by a supervisor and requests for an increase above 2 GB
will require a Vice-President's signature.
How do I figure out how much space I am using on EdShare?
To see how much space you are using on EdShare:
- Login to EdWeb for Faculty or Staff Information on
the Web or EdWeb for Students.
- Click on the link for EdShare
Information.
- You will see your Soft Limit, your Hard Limit
and Space Used.
Soft Limit - This is the
amount of space that is allocated to you. The Soft
Limit may be automatically increased to the Hard Limit
for a grace period of one week. This grace period allows
you to either delete existing files on EdShare to reduce
your file storage space on EdShare or gives you time
to fill out an EdShare
Quota Increase Form (for faculty and
staff only) to request an increase in space.
Hard Limit - This is the
absolute maximum amount of disk space that a user can
use. Once this limit is reached, no further disk space
can be used. You are only allowed to use the amount of
space between the Soft Limit and the Hard Limit for a
grace period of one week.
Space Used - This is the amount of disk space on EdShare
that files owned by you occupy. This includes any files
in your personal EdShare directory as well as any files
owned by you in department or other shares.
For Staff Only: The Quota Report will show you how much
space is allocated to and being used by each of the staff
or student workers you supervise.
How do I reduce the amount of space I am using on EdShare?
The only way to reduce the amount of spaced used on EdShare
is to delete files from your EdShare storage space. Remember
that any files you have saved to special shares or department
folders also count against that quota. So even if you see
that your personal EdShare folder is below the quota, you
may need to also remove files that are stored in a shared
folder. See the EdShare information page
for instructions on logging into EdShare and accessing
your personal or shared folders.
The EdShare quota information will not change immediately.
EdShare information is updated hourly, on the hour.
