Zimbra - Spam Filtering

Zimbra has a built in Junk mailbox. This mailbox is used by Zimbra's anti-spam filters to automatically filter everything that meets its spam criteria. While this system should pickup the majority of the messages that are tagged as spam by CanIT, St. Edward's spam filtering application, it may also find a greater number of messages it thinks are spam. The Computer Help Desk recommends that you scan this mailbox to make sure legitimate messages are not being incorrectly sent to Junk.

Checking the Junk E-mail Mailbox

To check the contents of the Junk mailbox in Zimbra, click on the Folders area and select Junk. If you find a message that has been incorrectly tagged

  • Select the message and Not Junk from the toolbar.

Marking Messages as Junk

If you find messages in your In mailbox that should be sent to the Junk mailbox

  • You can select the message and click Junk on the toolbar. The email is moved to your Junk folder and the spam-training filter is taught that the mail is junk.
  • You can empty the Junk folder by right-clicking the folder and choosing Empty Junk.
