How do I save PowerPoint 2007 documents so that they can be opened by older versions of PowerPoint?

St. Edward's University does not support Office 2007 at this time and recommends that you not save your Office 2007 documents in Microsoft's new file format which saves files with an extension of pptx.  Instead, you should save your Office 2007in the older format.  To do so:

  1. Click the Office Button in PowerPoint 2007
  2. Choose Save As
  3. Choose PowerPoint 97-2003 format.  This saves your PowerPoint 2007 document not as a .pptx file but rather as a .ppt file that can be opened and read in older versions of  Office.

How do I insert a picture (not clip art)?
Go to the Insert menu and select Picture From File. Locate and select the desired picture on your computer and click the Insert button.

What is Black Screen, and how do I use it?
The black screen allows you to temporarily hide the projection from your audience while you setup or exit your PowerPoint show. The black screen button is a toggle switch. Pressing it once turns it on, press it again to turn it off.
