Backing up Eudora on Mac OS X

Backing up your computer is essential. Hard drives fail and sometimes data cannot be recovered. If your computer is stolen, you also have a backup of all of your documents. Backing up is easy at St. Edward's. The best place to store a backup copy of all of your important documents and email is to save a copy on your personal EdShare account. The EdShare server is also backed up nightly so you will always be able to recover documents stored there. You may also backup to CD's or USB drives.

How to Back Up Eudora in Mac OS X

NOTE: You must QUIT Eudora before you can copy, move, or transfer any Eudora files.

All of your mailboxes, mail folders, address books, signatures, stationery, and settings are all stored in the Eudora Folder which is found in the user specific Documents folder. The Eudora Folder should not be confused with the Eudora Application Folder (Hard-drive > Applications > Eudora Applications Folder). The Eudora Folder keeps your data files - while the Eudora Application Folder stores the program itself.

  1. Open the Hard drive icon from the desktop screen and click the Users folder.
  2. From the Users folder, click on the folder with your Username.
  3. From your Username folder, click on Eudora Folder once to select it.
  4. Click on the Edit menu at the top of the screen and select Copy.
** From the Documents folder, you may also click and drag the folders or documents you want to back up to your destination folder.
  5. Open the EdShare drive (USB or CD) to which you are backing up your documents. Double click on the drive from your desktop. Your EdShare personal folder should be listed as 'username' on once you have logged into EdShare. If you are backing up to CD or USB drive, select that drive and double click on it.
  6. Once the drive is open, click on the Edit menu at the top of the screen and select Paste. This will copy all of the documents selected in Step 4 to the drive (EdShare or CD/USB).
