What is a blog

Blogs offer a place where participants may  express their views, thoughts and opinions. Along with written text, users may attach pictures, files, links, as well as audio and video clips.

Once a participant has posted an entry, other members may provide comments. Depending on the context of the blog, these comments may provide support, differing opinions, links providing pathways to further exploration, questions, and so on.

The nature of a blog suggests growth, reflection and exploration. Blogs may be navigated chronologically or by participant. Though the idea of a blog moves away from quantitative analysis or grading, the quality of a blog may be defined by the content, intent and courtesy of the entries. Often times a rubric may help direct the focus of a blog to allow creative expression yet stay on task.
