Automatic Creation of
Courses
All courses in the St. Edward's
University official Course Catalog have a Blackboard course created
automatically. Courses for the upcoming semester are loaded into
Blackboard 45 days prior to the first class day.
Making Courses Available to Students
Courses are set
to unavailable in Blackboard by default. This means that the
faculty can see the course but students cannot. Faculty need
to make their course available by going to the Control Panel
and selecting Settings and then Course Availabilty. Once the
course is available, students will be able to access it. To make
a course available:
- Go to the Control Panel for the course.
- Click on Settings under Course Options.
- Click on Course Availability.
- Select Yes and then click on Submit.
Your course in now accessible by students. Requesting a Special Class in Blackboard
If faculty or staff need to combine sections of an existing Blackboard
course or have a new course, not listed in the Course Catalog,
created it is possible to do so by contacting Instructional
Computing or the Blackboard System
Administrator.
Course Duration
Course duration is set automatically to be continuous.
Courses are automatically made unavailable to students on the 12th
class day of the next semester. Faculty who need to extend the
time a class is available to students will need to manually make
the course available to students after the 12th class day.
Classes remain on the Blackboard system for 2 years.
Every summer the Blackboard administrator will remove all courses
over 2 years in age. If faculty need to keep copies of older courses
an archive feature is available to save a complete copy of the
course. If faculty need to have courses removed before 2 years
please contact the System
Administrator. Courses must remain on
the Blackboard system for at least 2 semesters - 1 year in case
of grade challenges. The System Administrator can remove courses
that are older than 2 semesters - 1 year. |
