Supported Web Browsers
Blackboard Learning System 6 runs entirely on the web. Users must have a:

• Connection to the internet
• Supported web browser. Blackboard officially supports
  • Internet Explorer 6 & 7 for Windows XP
  • Firefox 1.x & 2.0 for Windows and Macintosh
  • Netscape 7 for Windows and Macintosh
  • Apple Safari for Macintosh

The AOL web browser will not work for Blackboard. After connecting to AOL you must use a separate, supported web browser such as IE or Netscape to access Blackboard.

Enabling Cookies

Cookies must be enabled for Blackboard to function correctly. Some people do not permit cookies on their computer, but Blackboard needs to set what's called a "Session" cookie in order to work. You will not be able to log onto the system until you permit Blackboard to set that cookie.

To permit cookies in Internet Explorer.

1. Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
2. Click on the Privacy Tab. The privacy must be set to "Medium" or lower in order for Blackboard to work. Click on Ok to save the changes.
3. Quit Internet Explorer.

To permit cookies in Firefox

1. Click on the Tools menu (Windows) or Firefox menu (Mac) and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac).
2. Click on the Privacy button.
3. Click on the Cookies tab.
4. Click on the box next to "Allow sites to set cookies".
5. Click on OK to save the changes.

To permit cookies in Netscape 7

1. Click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.
2. Click on the arrow next to Privacy and select Cookies.
3. Click on Enable All Cookies.
4. Click on OK to save changes.

Javascript must be enabled

Firefox

1. Click on the Tools menu (Windows) or Firefox menu (Mac) and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac).
2. Click on the Content button.
3. Make sure there is a check next to the box for "Enable Javascript".
4. Click on OK to save the changes.

Popups should be allowed for Blackboard

Internet Explorer

1. Click on the Tools menu and select Popup Blocker and then Popup Blocker Settings.
2. Type in blackboard.stedwards.edu and click on Add.
3. Click on Close.

Firefox

1. Click on the Tools menu (Windows) or Firefox menu (Mac) and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac).
2. Click on the Content button.
3. To the right of the "Block Popup Windows" box, click on the button for "Allowed Sites".
4. Type in blackboard.stedwards.edu and click on Allow.
5. Click on Close.
6. Click on OK to save the changes.

Reload Cache Every Time You Visit a Page

Internet Explorer 6

1. Select Tools, then Internet Options.
2. Select the General tab.
3. Select Settings from Temporary Internet Files.
4. Select the Every Visit to the Page radio button.
5. Click OK and Ok again to save the changes.

FireFox 1.x

1. Click on the Tools menu and select Options.
2. Click on the Privacy button.
3. Click on the Cache tab.
4. Click on Clear Cache Now button.
5. Click on OK.

Netscape 7

1. Select Edit, then Preferences.
2. Click the arrow next to Advanced to see more options.
3. Select Cache.
4. Select the Every time I view the page radio button.
5. Click OK to save the changes.
