FTP stands
for File Transfer Protocol. This protocol is a method
for transferring files from one computer to another
over the internet.
Web development software such as Dreamweaver include
built in FTP capabilities.
SFTP is a separate protocol from FTP that enables
you to fully encrypt all file transfers and prevent
unauthorized access to your data, files, user names,
and passwords. Secure FTP is currently enabled on the
servers aux.stedwards.edu and edshare.stedwards.edu.
In the near future, all transactions to these servers
will need to be conducted via SFTP.
Dreamweaver MX 2004 for both Windows
and Mac OS X have built in support for SFTP.
