Home Usage Rights

Home Use refers to a Faculty/Staff member's right to install a second copy of software, obtained through the I.T. Department, on either a laptop or home machine. Only the primary user of a St. Edward's University computer on which a copy of the software is installed may install a second copy, and such copy must be used for the normal work of the University carried out at home. Licensing agreements are often complex. A single vendor may have various licensing agreements for each product, release, version, and platform. It should be assumed that software manufactures do not include "Home Use" rights unless specifically stated.

Permitted:

  • Microsoft Campus Agreement: Home Use is permitted
    • Titles Include:  Microsoft Office XP Professional, Microsoft Office 2001 for Macintosh, Microsoft Office 10 for Macintosh, and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Academic.
  • Adobe: Home use is permitted. Details are available at the Adobe website.

Not Permitted:

Operating Systems: There are no home use rights for any operating system. A second copy of Windows, or of Apple's OS, cannot be installed on any Non-University owned system.
