Site Licenses
Licensing agreements are often complex. The biggest misconception
about software site license agreements is that these arrangements grant unlimited
number of users for an annual fee. Currently, these types of agreement are almost
non-existent. Most modern software licensing agreements consist of either yearly
rentals or volume purchases. Volume purchases: when discounts are extended to
the University when a group of orders is submitted to the vendor at one time.
Volume license rules and conditions:
- You have the right to use software while you are affiliated with the university.
That right is revoked upon termination of affiliation.
- The software cannot be used by or given to people who are not affiliated
with the university.
- Commercial or for profit use of the applications is prohibited.
- Some licenses restrict use of software to instructional purposes.
- Provide one set of media and at most one set of printed documentation.
Shrink-wrapped software includes:
- a license to use in perpetuity the version
- media or right to download it
- printed manual
- the right to technical support and upgrades for some period of time
