Technical Acquisitions
Standard Configurations

Information technology continues to increase in scope and complexity. Dependency on technology requires ever increasing levels of technical support. For over 8 years, the I.T. Department has established campus-wide standards for hardware and software configurations that support St. Edward’s mission-critical operations.

Manufactures of hardware have many different models to choose from. Attempting to support every option leads to unrealistic support demands on the University’s technical staff. Therefore, certain standards for hardware and software must be implemented. Balancing these support issues with the needs of educators, staff and students can be challenging. Choices must be made as we leverage University resources.

Standards lead directly to greater level of technical support for hardware. Computer hardware compliance allows for custom software imaging, faster computer turn-around, and in most cases next day warranty replacement parts. Technical credentials of I.T. Staff include: DCSE: Dell Certified Systems Expert, Hp LaserJet Certified Technicians, and Macintosh Certified Technicians.

Standards "empower" rather than restrict.
