Former Directors

Dr. Margaret E. Crahan Appointed Director in February 2008
Dr. Margaret E. Crahan served as Director of the Kozmetsky Center of Excellence in Global Finance and Kozmetsky Distinguished Professor from Feb. 1, 2008, until Aug.31, 2009. She currently is Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Democracy, Toleration, and Religion at Columbia University.

Crahan received her doctorate from Columbia University and has held a number of endowed chairs including:

  • The Henry R. Luce Professorship of Religion, Power and Political Process at Occidental College (1982–1994)
  • The Marous Professorship at the University of Pittsburgh (1993–1994)
  • The Dorothy Epstein Professorship at Hunter College, City University of New York (1994–2008)

Crahan has served on the boards of the Fulbright Program and the Kellogg Institute of the University of Notre Dame, as well as a member of the Task Force on Latin America of the Council of Foreign Relations (2006–2008). She currently serves as Vice President of the Interamerican Institute of Human Rights and on the Executive Council of the Washington Office on Latin America.

Crahan has published more than 100 books and articles.

Dr. Joseph S. Tulchin Appointed Interim Director
Dr. Joseph S. Tulchin was appointed interim director of the Kozmetsky Center of Excellence in Global Finance in 2006. His areas of expertise include U.S. foreign policy, inter-American relations, contemporary Latin America, strategic planning and social science research methodology. Tulchin’s publications include more than 100 scholarly articles and 70 books. Prior to his appointment, he served as the director of the Latin American Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C., a position he held for more than 15 years.

Before his tenure at the Woodrow Wilson International Center, Tulchin was a professor of History and director of the International Program at the University of North Carolina. He also taught History at Yale University.

 

Rosario Green, director of the Kozmetsky CenterRosario Green Appointed as First Director
In January 2005, former Mexican Foreign Minister Rosario Green was appointed as the first director of the Kozmetsky Center. Green is a noted authority on subjects related to Mexican and Latin American foreign debt, international politics and the world economy. She currently serves as the secretary-general of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and as a senator in the Mexican Congress — she is the only woman to have served as Mexico’s secretary of state.

Green also has a wealth of academic experience through previous posts as a professor at notable institutions, including:

  • Center for International Studies of El Colegio de México
  • Universidad Iberoamericana
  • Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
