Application Portfolio
To be considered for admission, a candidate must submit a complete portfolio of documents for evaluation. To submit a complete application portfolio, please submit the following seven items:

• an Application for Admission form, completed and signed;

• $45 application fee;

• essay(3-5 pages), response to essay question;

• an official academic transcript from every college and/or university attended;

• official GRE scores (if applicable);

• resume;

• letter(s) of recommendation (optional);

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS must submit official TOEFL scores and Financial Data forms.

When you are ready to submit your application, we suggest that you submit the following items together:

• essay
• resume

The following items may arrive before or after you submit your application and supporting documents mentioned above:
• official GRE scores
• official academic transcript(s)

MAC Admission Criteria
Applicants to the Master of Arts in Counseling program must hold an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university or its equivalent. To be considered for admission United States citizens and residents should do the following:

  • Complete the application form and submit it, with the $45 application fee and response to the essay question, to: Center for Academic Progress, Attn: Graduate Admission, 3001 S. Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704.
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous college work (one from each institution attended). Official transcripts must be sent by the issuing institution directly to the Center for Academic Progress.
  • Arrange for the Educational Testing Service to send official reports of scores received on the GRE (if necessary).


Admission Criteria
  1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  2. Demonstrated scholastic achievement at the undergraduate level evidenced by a minimum grade point average of 3.00 in the last 60 hours of study or 2.75 overall (applicants that do not meet the minimum GPA may apply for conditional admission);
  3. Aptitude for graduate study indicated by a minimum GRE of 1,000 (composite of quantitativeand verbal scores). Applicants educated at the college level in a language other than English must demonstrate oral and written English proficiency by attaining a minimumof 550 (213 computer based score) on the TOEFL examination). Applicants that meet the minimum GPA and have more than three years of professional work experience may waive the GMAT or GRE requirement (please see conditional admission);
  4. Evidence of ability to assume responsibility in the work environment. Professional work experience is highly desirable. A large majority of graduate business students have more than five years' professional work experience;
  5. Completed application form with supporting documents and application fee.


Unconditional Admission
The Center for Academic Progress assesses each applicant's potential to contribute and successfully complete the MAC program. An applicant who applies for conditional admission must meet the following criteria::

• Bachelor's degree or it's equivalent from a regionally accredited institution;
• a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate study or 2.75 overall;
• a minimum score of 1000 on the GRE (verbal + quantitative)

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL;



Conditional Admission
The Center for Academic Progress assesses each applicant's potential to contribute and successfully complete the MAC program. An applicant who applies for conditional admission must meet the following criteria:

• Bachelor's degree or it's equivalent from a regionally accredited institution;
• Minimum of 3 years professional work experience;
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL;

and meet one of the following two criteria:

• a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate study or 2.75 overall;
• a minimum score of 1000 on the GRE (verbal + quantitative)



Re-admission Criteria
Students who do not enroll in courses for three consecutive terms after completing one or more courses must reapply if they wish to continue the program. Students accepted into a program that defer enrollment for four or more consecutive terms must reapply to begin the program.

To reapply, students must submit a new application and pertinent supportive documents (e.g. transcripts of any academic work completed during the interim, current resume, and a letter of intent).

• International Student Deadline - November 1
• Final Deadline - December 1

Summer Term
• Priority Deadline - March 1
• International Student Deadline - March 1
• Final Deadline - April 1

Fall Term
• Priority Deadline - July 1
• International Student Deadline - July 1
• Final Deadline - August 1   

IMPORTANT: Applicants should take the GRE or TOEFL exam no later than 6 weeks prior to the final deadline.

Notification
Once the Center for Academic Progress (Graduate Admissions) receives a complete application, an admission decision will be made within four (4) weeks.

After an admission decision has been made, the applicant will be notified of the admission decision by mail. Admitted students will be able to register for classes upon receiving their admission packet. Denied students will be able to receive consultation regarding steps necessary to gain admission into the MAC.
