The SEU Experience
The
MAC Program takes into account the pressures and sacrifices
that employed part-time students encounter. That is
why MAC faculty and staff are dedicated to providing
an academic experience that minimizes time-consuming
administrative details. MAC students are advised from
your first inquiry through graduation by one department
- the Center for Academic Progress - and register for
classes each term through Web registration. This allows
us to provide an exceptional level of service that enables
our students to concentrate on the primary goal of earning
their degrees.
As
you learn more about us, you will quickly see how the
MAC Program strives to improve the well-being of our
society by preparing future counselors through innovative
and leading-edge curriculum. As you probe deeper, you
will enjoy an introduction to the beautiful setting
in which the St. Edward's University community works
and learns, and the remarkable men and women who make
the MAC program the premier place in Austin to obtain
a graduate-level counseling degree.
Faculty
You
will find that the MAC faculty adheres to the philosophy
that the profession of counseling can be advanced through
an educational program of the highest quality. They
are dedicated to the training of counselors that will
have an integral role and responsibility within society.
While providing MAC students with a basic grounding
in various fields of practice and methods, the MAC faculty
members are continuously refining the counseling curriculum
to meet changing needs. All MAC classes have an average
class size of 20, which allows accessibility of faculty
members and encourages direct and personal contact between
faculty and students.
Students
Counselors
experience personal growth as they contribute to society
throughout their careers. This paradigm is stressed
throughout the MAC curriculum. The diverse student body
ensures that you will receive a broad counseling perspective
while you gain valuable experience in field instruction
to prepare you for your professional counseling career.
Each
year, the MAC Program admits approximately 75-80 students.
St. Edward's students are a part of a program that allows
a great level of intellectual and social involvement
with faculty and among students and alumni. The personal
and professional contacts developed within each class
become strong networks for students' professional lives
after graduation.
Center for Academic Progress
The
Center for Academic Progress (CAP) offers "one stop
shopping" to students in MAC from the time they inquire
about studies at St. Edward's University through graduation.
Admission coordinators provide information and admission
services to prospective students regarding the available
programs of study and the application process. Advising
specialists orient students to the programs, counsel
them with regard to academic goals and objectives, and
monitor academic progress through graduation. The student
and his or her advising specialist develop a detailed
plan for meeting all degree requirements. The advising
specialist also provides referrals to campus-wide student
services and resources. |
