Art of the Incarcerated
Opening reception: Friday, Friday, Aug. 28, 6–8 p.m.
As a society, we have sentenced individuals to existence in an institution, in accordance with the current laws of the land. While this incarceration may serve to protect the citizenry, it needs to acknowledge the cost to the human spirit for those who are confined. The Arts offer expression, communication, and hope for those who are confined. This exhibit showcases some of the creative work created in our local prisons. |

bobrauschenbergamerica
By Charles L. Mee
Directed by David M. Long
A wild road trip through the American landscape as artist Robert Rauschenberg might have conceived it had he been a playwright: a collage of people and places, music and dancing, love stories and business schemes, chicken jokes and golfing, and the sheer exhilaration of living in a country where people make up their lives as they go. Featuring Equity guest artists Babs George and Jamie Goodwin. |

JIMMY LUU: THE OFFICE OF PRINTED EPHEMERA
Opening Reception: Friday, Sept. 18, 6–8 p.m.
Artist: Jimmy Luu
The Office of Printed Ephemera presents a large collection of prints from the Office’s archive of collected digital content from sources, such as Craigslist ads or Twitter posts. Each selected text is then archived in printed form via handset letterpress or hand-pulled silkscreen. The Office’s archive explores the parallels between turn of the century printed ephemera and the current flood of fleeting digital content produced and distributed in real time via the internet. As a meditation on so-called ‘new-’ and ‘old-’ media, The Office of Printed Ephemera is a starting place for imagining new ways of understanding the rapidly unfolding digital world. |

Borderland
Opening reception: Friday, Oct. 16, 6–8 p.m.
Artist: Jason Reed
This series explores vernacular life in the border regions of West Texas and New Mexico. Through depictions of people, buildings, landscapes, and personal objects, the photographs function as memorials of the past while simultaneously lending a sense of stability to the future. Working together, these layers of nature and culture, myth and reality, and past and present begin to form an emblematic map that serves as a personal and collective guide to this region. |

The Life of Galileo
By Bertolt Brecht, Translated by David Hare
Directed by Michelle Polgar
In 1609, in a small study in Padua, Galileo, Galilei raises a telescope to the skies. What he finds there reverberates from the streets of Padua to the Vatican palace in Rome, sparking a debate that threatens his very survival. From master playwright Bertolt Brecht comes a theatrical discourse on reason, faith, power and the tension arising from scientific progress running headlong into age-old assumptions. Featuring Equity guest artists David Stahl and David Stokey. |

Peer Gynt
By Henrik Ibsen, Translated by Robert Bly
Directed by Ev Lunning, Jr.
Out of the gentle genius of Henrik Ibsen comes a stunning theatrical travelogue exploring one man’s journey of self-discovery from impetuous boyhood to penitent old age. A fantastical voyage filled with puppetry, music and wonder in the tradition of the great Norwegian fairy tales, Peer Gynt races, stumbles, fights, meanders and crashes, alternately, around the world and back again in this new translation by Minnesota poet laureate Robert Bly. Featuring Equity guest artist Sheila M. Gordon. |

City of Angels
Book by Larry Gelbart, Music by Cy Coleman, Lyrics by David Zippel
Vocal Arrangements by Cy Coleman and Yaron Gershovsky
Directed by Michael McKelvey
Music Direction by Michael McKelvey
In this smart, sassy and side-splittingly funny musical, a frazzled novelist struggles to adapt his hard-boiled detective novel to the silver screen. As tensions mount, the parallels between his own life and that of his fictional detective spiral to dizzying heights. With wit, style and a sophisticated, jazz-inspired score, this Tony-award winning musical bounces between film noir and 1940s Hollywood glamour with dynamic musical flare.
Featuring Equity guest artist David M. Long. |
