St. Edward’s University Celebrates
French Heritage During Founder's Week 2009

St. Edward’s University will celebrate its French heritage this year during the 2009 Founder’s Week from Oct. 4–9. A Founder’s Week Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel starts off several free campus events including a French Cabaret with French food and music, and “Images of Our French Heritage.” The celebration ends with a service project.

The university’s 125th anniversary approaching in 2010 inspired the look back. Special guests Cultural Attaché Dominic Chastres and Deputy Cultural Attaché Marie Maurannes of the Consulate General of France in Houston will give a special presentation to the St. Edward’s community about the university’s French roots.

“Founder’s Week is a time to reflect on everything unique about the university. And, this week celebrates our Holy Cross Congregation, St. Edward, the saint for which we are named, and our founder Edward Sorin,” says Brother Larry Atkinson.

The St. Edward’s Community invites you to join the following events:

• Founder’s Week Mass: Sunday, Oct. 4, 10:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.
• Presentation on French Culture and Language: Monday, Oct. 5, 2-3:15 p.m. and 3:30-4:45 p.m.
• Cinema Francais Today—A Program of Short Films: Monday, Oct. 5, 7-8:30 p.m.
• French Music—“The French Connection:” Tuesday, Oct. 6, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
• French Food and Music—French Cabaret: Wednesday, Oct. 7, noon-1 p.m.
• Post-Graduate Service Fair: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 4-7 p.m.
• Service project: Friday, Oct. 9, 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

The Congregation of Holy Cross founded St. Edward's University in 1885.
