Founder's Day and Moreau Beatification Reception
As part of the annual Founder's Day celebration at St. Edward's, the university is celebrating the beatification of Father Basil Moreau, CSC, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross. At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, the university community is invited to a special Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, followed by a reception on the lawn of Main Building.
Last month in LeMans, France, Father Moreau was officially beatified. Beatification is the third of four steps on the path to becoming a saint (canonization) in the Catholic Church. The Congregation of Holy Cross founded St. Edward's University in 1885, and also founded the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. By celebrating the beatification of Father Moreau, St. Edward's honors its Catholic heritage and remembers the priests, brothers and sisters who are dedicated to educating the hearts and minds of students around the world. Today, Holy Cross operates missions, schools, colleges and universities on five continents and in 13 countries.
