AUSTIN-Live
music, giveaways, and voter encouragement lead the activities when
Rock the Vote's 25-city election bus tour will make its only stop
in Austin at St. Edward's University on Fri., Sept. 22, from 3-7
p.m. on the track in front of the Main Building. Entertainment will
include Ill Harmonics, Joe Bonamassa, Canvas, Bare Jr., Chamber
36 and comedy improv troupe Fat Buckle. Selected speakers
will energize young Austin voters during the event, which is free
and open to the public.
Rock
the Vote is a non-partisan, non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization,
founded in 1990 by members of the recording industry in response
to a wave of political attacks on freedom of speech and artistic
impression. Rock the Vote is dedicated to protecting freedom of
expression and helping young people realize and utilize their power
to affect change in the civic and political lives of their communities.
The
25-city bus tour is committed to registering new voters, helping
young people recognize the role of politics in their lives and educating
youth about important community issues and candidates. In between
live performances, local student, community and political representatives
will share why youth should vote on November 7 and stay engaged
in their communities on a daily basis.
St.
Edward's University is an independent, Catholic liberal arts university
of 3,800 students in Austin. It was founded by the Congregation
of Holy Cross.
