AUSTIN,
Texas - St. Edward's University will announce a $1.5 million
gift from the Mitte Foundation for business scholarships at noon
on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, on the lawn of Holy Cross Hall. In
case of inclement weather, the announcement will be held in the
Mabee Ballroom of the Ragsdale Center.
St. Edward's University is the first private institution to
be funded by the Mitte Foundation. There will be fifteen $5,000
scholarships for the next 20 years equaling $1.5 million. Twelve
will go to undergraduate students, and three will go to graduate
students.
Scott Mitte, Mitte Foundation executive director, and Dr. George
Martin, St. Edward's University president, will make the gift
announcement. Representatives are invited from other Mitte Foundation
partner schools in Texas including Texas A&M University, University
of Texas at Austin and Southwest Texas State University.
Refreshments will be served, and a live band will play.
St. Edward's University is an independent Catholic liberal
arts university of 4,100 students in Austin. It was founded by the
Congregation of Holy Cross.
