AUSTIN The New Media Consortium (NMC) has awarded St. Edwards
University the designation New Media Center, an honor bestowed
to a learning-focused organization for its commitment to expanding
the boundaries of teaching, learning and creative expression.
Applicants are selected based on the following criteria: impact,
innovation, collaboration, diversity and viability. Once conveyed,
the New Media Center designation remains with an institution
as long as it chooses to use it and receives the rights and privileges
of this designation, including participation in selected NMC projects
and activities and special consideration in submission of proposals
for NMC conferences and events.
Started in 1994 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, the NMC promotes
creativity and innovation among and between corporate entities and
higher education for the benefit of student learning, faculty development
and staff proficiency in using new media tools and technologies.
The first group of 22 academic institutions included Stanford University,
the original pilot project site, and other sites chosen for their
demonstrated competence at using new media technologies. The NMC
has since grown to include over 125 colleges, universities, museums,
and corporations.
Founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross, St. Edwards University
is a private Catholic, liberal arts university of more than 4,250
students in Austin, Texas.
