Award-winning
poet Brother George Klawitter, CSC, will be reading from his two
most recent collections of poetry on Thursday, Oct. 21, through
the St. Edward’s University Visiting Writers Series. His most
recent manuscript, “Let Orpheus Take Your Hand,” was
the winner of the 2001 Gival Press Poetry Contest. Klawitter also
will read from an earlier collection, “Country Matters,”
which includes 81 poems in various lyric styles, some mythologically
based.
An
associate professor of English at St. Edward’s University,
where he has taught since 1994, Klawitter also is the author of
11 books. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University
of Notre Dame, a master’s from the University of Michigan
and a PhD from the University of Chicago. Klawitter’s professional
memberships include the Modern Language Association, the Milton
Society and the John Donne Society.
The
Visiting Writers Series brings working writers to campus to read
from their work, talk about their writing and interact with students.
Both the St. Edward's community and the greater Austin community
have benefited from the inspiration of the poets, novelists and
essayists who have shared their talents. The readings are free and
open to the public.
