AUSTIN — Two student publications from St. Edward’s
University received awards at the 2004 Texas Intercollegiate Press
Association (TIPA) Conference held in April. More than 500 students
and advisors attended from 50 schools in Texas.
St. Edward’s Student Newspaper Hilltop Views, garnered
14 awards, while Sorin Oak Review, the university’s
literary and artistic journal received three awards. The entire
Hilltop Views staff received honorable mention in the special
edition category for their design of the Welcome Week issue.
Stacee Millangue, ’05, English writing/rhetoric major
(Corpus Christi — Richard King High School), handed over her
gavel after a successful year as TIPA president, and Sarah
Bond, ’06, English writing/rhetoric major (Wimberley
— Wimberley High School), received a Buckley Scholarship,
which is awarded to students at a four-year university who show
excellence in pursuit of a journalism career. In addition, Joe
O’Connell, adjunct instructor, was selected as the
2004 Advisor of the Year.
Founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross, St. Edward’s University
has been named one of America’s Best Colleges for 2004 by
U.S. News & World Report. St. Edward’s is a private,
Catholic, liberal arts university of approximately 4,450 students
located in Austin, Texas.
