U.S.
News & World Report has recognized St. Edward’s among
the top 25 master’s-granting institutions in the Western region.
The ranking marks the second time
St. Edward’s has made the magazine’s “Best Of”
list in as many years thanks to continued institutional enhancement.
The
formula used by U.S. News to rank schools includes a set
of six criteria, including peer assessment, retention, faculty resources,
student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. Moving
up by even one number requires significant improvements in almost
every area.
“This
achievement reflects the university’s continuing commitment
to excellence, evident in the increasing quality of our students,
academic programs and facilities,” said President George E.
Martin. “Excellence is the foundation of our future and underscores
our mission to provide each student a transformative educational
experience — the hallmark of St. Edward’s University.”
The
latest U.S. News ranking comes four years into the university’s
vision to attain recognition as one of the best small universities
in the country. To realize the vision, university leaders implemented
a set of seven strategic priorities and an ambitious master plan
that define the future direction of the university. The priorities
include goals for enrollment, faculty recruitment and development,
curricular and co-curricular programs, facilities and technology,
financial management, endowment and marketing. The master plan includes
new academic buildings and residence halls, computer and athletic
facilities, a chapel and theater, as well as a revised road and
parking system and landscape master plan.
Founded
by the Congregation of Holy Cross, St. Edward’s University
is a private, Catholic, liberal arts university of approximately
4,450 students located in Austin, Texas.
