| The
Kozmetsky Center of Excellence in Global Finance at St. Edward’s
University presents a dialogue between Madeleine Albright, former
secretary of state of the United States, and Rosario Green, former
secretary of state of Mexico, on Nov. 17, at 1:30 p.m. The event
is free and open to the public.
Madeleine
Korbel Albright served as the United States’ 64th secretary
of state during the Clinton administration. She was named to the
post in 1997, becoming the first woman to hold the position, and
at that time, was the highest ranking woman in the history of U.S.
government.
Kozmetsky
Center Director Rosario Green, the only woman to have served as
Mexico’s secretary of state, will conduct the dialogue. “Through
the Kozmetsky Center speaker series, we hope to transcend national
boundaries and offer an international perspective on issues of social
justice and economic policy,” said Green. “What better
choice to open the world of international relations to our students
than with my colleague Madeleine Albright.”
The
public is invited to e-mail questions in advance for consideration.
Questions for Madeleine Albright may be submitted to kozmetskycenter@admin.stedwards.edu
and must include the author’s name and place of residence
(city and state or country). Questions must be received by 8 a.m.
on Monday, Nov. 14, to be eligible for consideration. Planned topics
include Albright’s experience at the United Nations and her
assessment of her achievements in her career to date.
As
secretary of state, Albright reinforced America’s alliances,
advocated democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade
and business, labor and environmental standards abroad. Serving
as a member of the President’s Cabinet and National Security
Council for eight years, Albright was the U.S. Permanent Representative
to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997. Albright is the first Michael
and Virginia Mortara Endowed Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy
at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service
and the first Visiting Saltzman Fellow at Columbia University’s
Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies.
