Throughout
the ages, the Book of Psalms has been instrumental in forming the
spiritual lives of devout Christians, especially those in monasteries.
On Thursday, April 21, Father John Enders, SJ, a noted biblical
scholar and Professor of Sacred Scripture in the Jesuit School of
Theology at the University of California-Berkeley, will lecture
at St. Edward’s University describing different ways of reading
the Book of Psalms based on some of the central principles of Christianity.
In his presentation, Father Enders will help the audience to unlock
the riches of the Psalms and make them applicable to everyday lives.
Father Endres
teaches courses in Psalms, Wisdom and Deuterocanonical Books, Intertestamental
Literature and Dead Sea Scrolls. He has co-authored “A Retreat
with Psalms: Resources for Personal and Communal Prayer” and
“Chronicles and Its Synoptic Parallels in Samuel, Kings and
Related Biblical Texts.” In addition, Father Endres currently
serves as vice president for the Catholic Biblical Association.
