St. Edward's University Celebrates Fall Graduation Ceremonies

AUSTIN —On Dec. 15, St. Edward’s University will confer 433 diplomas as the university recognizes graduating students in two ceremonies. Ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. for New College and Graduate students and at 2 p.m. for traditional undergraduates in the Recreation and Convocation Center. A reception will follow each graduation ceremony at Mabee Ballroom in the Robert and Pearle Ragsdale Center.

Nancy Brown, ’00, New College summa cum laude graduate, will deliver the keynote address for the New College and Graduate ceremony. Brown, who completed the PACE Business and Management major and received the New College Graduate Award, is the vice president of Development at BusinesSuites, a leader in the office business center industry. Some of her responsibilities include managing sales and pricing for all 15 locations (approximately 950 offices) and analyzing financial condition of a company in order to make decisions on current operations and growth.

James Franz, ’82, who graduated with a BS in Social Work, will deliver the keynote address for the undergraduates. Franz has served as principal of Bishop T.K. Gorman Catholic School in Tyler, Texas, since 1998. He started his career at the Marist Brothers’ High School in Pago Pago, Samoa. Since the mid-1980s, Franz has made significant contributions to the schools at which he’s worked. At Holy Cross High School in San Antonio, he started a Cross Country program, implemented Advanced Placement English IV and honors curriculum and oversaw enrollment increase from 380 students to 460 students.

The number of students expected to graduate on Dec. 15 is as follows:

Graduate: 105
New College: 84
Undergraduate: 244
Total: 433
