Jeannette Walls to discuss povert at St. Edward's University

Austin, TX — Jeannette Walls, author of The Glass Castle, will discuss the issue of poverty at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7 in the Recreation and Convocation Center at St. Edward's University.

The Glass Castle is an in-depth look at Walls’ life growing up in extreme poverty and describes the unimaginable obstacles she faced. From the desert of the Southwest to the mountains of West Virginia to her parent’s homelessness in New York City, Walls' account of an impoverished life is a compelling and moving first-person testament to what it means to be poor. She explains in detail the effects of poverty and tells the tale of her emergence from it.

The Glass Castle has been on the New York Times best-seller list for over two years and has sold over two million copies. Walls is also a journalist whose work has appeared in New York Magazine, Esquire, USA Today and MSNBC. Currently, she is dedicated to writing her next book. A major motion picture about her life is also in development.

A book signing will be held in the Recreation and Convocation Center immediately following the lecture.
