Vice President Academic Affairs
Mary K. Boyd, PhD, joined St. Edward’s in 2013 as vice president for Academic Affairs. A strong advocate for undergraduate research, she co-edited the book Broadening Participation in Undergraduate Research: Fostering Excellence and Enhancing the Impact. Prior to her role at St. Edward’s, she was the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of San Diego for five years. From 2005 to 2008, she was a faculty member and chair of the Department of Chemistry at Georgia Southern University. From 1990 to 2005, Boyd was a faculty member at Loyola University Chicago. During her time at Loyola University Chicago, she was a Faculty Fellow in the Center for Ethics and Social Justice and received the Sujack Award for Teaching Excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Boyd is a member of the American Chemical Society Committee on Minority Affairs and the Executive Committee of the Division of Organic Chemistry. She previously served on the Women Chemists Committee, the Inter-American Photochemical Society and as a councilor for the Council of Undergraduate Research. She has also been a principal investigator for several National Science Foundation grants. Boyd holds a bachelor’s and doctorate degree in Chemistry from the University of Toronto. She was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
