Peru Immersion Experience
The Congregation of Holy Cross has been in Peru since 1963, always working with the poor and always trying to build up the local church. Holy Cross sponsors several organizations:
- Fe y Alegria, a grammar and high school
- Yancana Huasy, a special school for the mentally and physically challenged
- Lord of Hope Parish
Immersion participants will work in these organizations side-by-side with Holy Cross religious and very dedicated lay people. Time will be spent on various projects that benefit the community at that particular time. In years past students have helped in classrooms, cleaned and painted, and interacted with the students.
The group will immerse themselves at Holy Cross schools in Canto Grande, Peru. Canto Grande is located on the outskirts of Lima with a population of approximately 900,000 people, many of whom are poor and a good number are destitute. For the fifth year, Campus Ministry will sponsor this experience to allow students the opportunity to work with and learn from the economically disadvantaged in Canto Grande.
