Community Service Projects - Alternative Spring Break

"I learned so much during Alternative Spring Break - my worldview was enriched. I am more compassionate because of this experience." - 2007 ParticipantAlternative Spring Break Opportunities

Campus Ministry offers a variety of sites to make a difference and have fun on Alternative Spring Break. The program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in complex social and cultural issues through direct service, group discussion, experiential learning and individual reflection. During the pilgrimage, students share their perspectives regarding society, have the chance to make an impact and engage in new experiences. In the Holy Cross tradition of service, our hope is that students are transformed by the experience, becoming agents of change in the world.

Sponsored by Campus Ministry:
Educating hearts and minds ... to build community, do justice, live simply, engage spirituality.

International Immersion Experiences

In the Holy Cross tradition, the international immersion program strives to remind us that "we must make ourselves at home among more than one people or culture, reminding us again that the farther we go in giving, the more we stand to receive." (Congregation of Holy Cross Constitution II, 17)

In May 2008, students and staff members from St. Edward's will participate in the international immersion program hoping to find a home in a new culture. This program offers students a glimpse at the daily lives of people from another country while examining the critical issues of society and exploring our responsibility in a world community. Evenings consist of talks on the economy, church and political reality along with reflection, journaling and social analysis. A limited amount of time is spent experiencing the culture and visiting the attractions of the sites.
