Brother David Darst Center for Peace and Justice
| Immersion Dates: |
Saturday, March 8–Friday, March 14, 2008 |
| Where: |
Chicago, Illinois |
| Site Description: |
General exposure to various kinds of social issues — homelessness, poverty, racism, diversity, etc. — and an opportunity to experience inter-religious opportunities |
The Brother David Darst Center supports all who work for social justice and the advance of peace. The center seeks to develop the social and self-understanding of young people, inviting their participation in multicultural urban ministries as a response to and an extension of the gospel of Jesus.
The goal of this urban immersion is to engage with different neighborhoods of Chicago through hands-on experiences. Participants will also develop theoretical understandings and considerations of personal and social options, learning about some of the social ills and the hopes of people struggling to deal with life in an urban environment. You'll meet people from other organizations working to make a difference, have cross-cultural experiences and engage in daily communal reflection. This Alternative Spring Break site will expand your view of God and give you a greater understanding of urban concerns.
