Master of Liberal Arts Community
In this increasingly complex world, the way we live
and work is changing rapidly. Being flexible, knowledgeable
and adaptable is key to personal and professional growth.
In light of this, pursuing a MLA at St. Edward's University
is more than an avenue for personal fulfillment. It
is your opportunity to become a true generalistsomeone
who, through a broad-based graduate liberal arts experience,
is better able to bring valuable perspective and depth
to evolving personal, professional and community issues.
The MLA program is built upon St. Edward's University's
more than 25 year commitment to the interests and needs
of adult working students. The benefits of this program
are three-fold. First, students are able to pursue a
specific study interest. We have students undertaking
coursework of their choice in art, anthropology, economics,
English, history, philosophy, psychology, German and
religious studies.
Second, students are able to identify and make connections
among the various liberal arts disciplines, often working
at the intersection of two disciplines. For example,
we have students exploring the ways in which anthropological
and psychological perspectives inform our understanding
of culture. This ability to make to make connections
is the cornerstone of the program, as we believe it
will help you understand the worldand your place
in itin new and exciting ways.
Finally, with my help and that of their advising specialists
and major professors, students are able to craft individual
degree plans reflecting their unique interests and personal
goals. This flexibility is a particularly satisfying
aspect of the program for me, and I look forward to
shaping a degree plan with you that will meet your individual
needs.
Sincerely,
Paula Marks, Ph.D. MLA Program Director
