Anatomy of a Degree Plan


The New College curriculum design implements SEU's concept of a liberal arts education that emphasizes critical reasoning, oral and written commnication skills, and values analysis and clarification. To complete the baccalaureate degree, students must:
  • Fulfill an approved degree plan, which includes a major field and distribution of credits in the New College General Education Requirements;
  • Complete a least 120 credit hours. A minimum of 30 credit hours, including one-half of the major, must be from St. Edward’s University;
  • Complete New College Mission courses;
  • Complete online Computer Competencies (different from computational skills requirement in general education requirements);
  • Fulfill all other graduation requirements.
MISSION COURSES (12 hours)
Mission courses are classes that encourage students to think critically and employ moral reasoning. Mission courses must be taken at SEU.

A-NCCI 3330 Critical Thinking and Research (3 hours)

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (39 hours)
General education requirements are 39 hours of courses that may be satisfied through any of the Options for Earning College Credit. These courses are the foundation of the liberal arts experience.

NOTE: Some of the general education requirements may be drawn from specified courses in the major.  Please consult with your specified degree plan and your advising specialist for these exceptions.
