An alumna of New College, Dr. Gunn earned one fourth
of her undergraduate degree credits through the portfolio
program that she now oversees. During her New College
student days she was an officer in Alpha Sigma Lambda
and New College Writers. She received the Outstanding
New College Graduate Award and the coveted Presidential
Award as well. She holds the M.A. in English with a
minor in Developmental and Adult Education. Her doctoral
dissertation is entitled "The Substance of Things
Hoped For: An Object-Relations Perspective on the Near-Death
Visionary Narrative of George G. Ritchie, Jr., M.D."
Dr. Gunn's areas of interest are feminist theory,
psychoanalytic literary criticism, religious writing,
women's literature, and composition theory. She regularly
teaches the Research Seminar, Women Writers (summers
only), and Introduction to Effective Writing, as well
as some graduate seminars, and has conducted directed
studies in British Literature I and Spiritual Autobiography.
Her articles have appeared in The Explicator, The
Journal of Near-Death Studies, and The Recorder, as
well as the New College Newsletter of which she is
co-editor. She is a member of College Composition
and Communication, National Council of Teachers of
English, the International Association of Near-Death
Studies, and the International John Bunyan Society.
