A licensed professional counselor and marriage and family therapist, Vicki was in private practice for 10 years before returning to academia in 1998 to teach at St. Edward’s. While serving as an Associate Dean at SEU, she helped develop the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts in Human Services that she now coordinates. Although the 10 years before she joined the faculty at St. Edward’s were spent primarily honing her clinical skills, she is no stranger to academia. In addition to her work as a contract counselor at the Counseling and Mental Health Center at the University of Texas, she had previously worked as an administrator, counselor, and adjunct faculty member at Austin Community College for 12 years and as a part-time marketing writer for instructional television at the Dallas County Community College District for 5 years. Vicki’s undergraduate degree in journalism is from the University of Texas and her Master’s of Education in Counseling degree is from Texas State University. She continues to maintain both of her counseling licenses from the State of Texas.

Returning to education with her background as a therapist, she now approaches human services with the understanding that her own lens for how to create change was too narrow as a practitioner.  She credits her work with the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS), with helping her move from a strictly service approach to a development approach to change.  She is excited about the possibilities such a shift can create, which is what motivates her in her current roles as Vice President for Regional Development for NOHS, President of the Western Region for Human Services Professionals, and as a member of the Guide Team for the Ending Poverty Conferences based in San Diego, California.
