I have taught full time at St. Edward’s University since
the spring of 1986. As an undergraduate, I doubled majored
in Sociology and Philosophy with a minor in Business.
I did my Master of Arts degree in Philosophy at Texas
Christian University in Fort Worth and completed the
course work and the comprehensive exams for the Ph.D.
at the University if Kansas in Lawrence. I taught my
first college level course in 1977. While at KU, I completed
18 additional hours in the humanities primarily studying
Latin and Greek Tragedies with a dash of art history
thrown in. Before coming to New College, I taught at
Austin Community College, the University of Kansas and
the University of Texas at Arlington. At these schools,
I primarily taught philosophy, ethics and humanities
courses. My main philosophical interests fall within
the realm of ethics and moral decision making, as well
as, ancient Greek philosophy.
I have been in nontraditional education since the
early 1980s. During that period, I primarily taught
instructional television courses (ACC still broadcasts
a few of my philosophy videos from the 80s) and a
couple of onsite humanities courses in Europe (great
way to teach). When I can to New College in ’86, I
moved into St. Edward’s version of nontraditional
instruction. I taught the first online course for
St. Edward’s and New College in 1994 and now have
four different online courses and a web-based capstone
section available.
I am actively involved in the Adult Higher Education
Alliance, which is a nationwide nonprofit organization,
which focuses on theory and practice in teaching adult
students. I am also an active member of the Association
for Practical and Applied Ethics and the American
Philosophical Association and a member of several
other philosophy societies. |
