Gwen Santiago receives top MBA alumni honors from St. Edward's University

Gwen Santiago, '78, MBA '88, executive director of Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) is recipient of the 2001 MBA Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Edward's University.

Santiago is affectionately referred to as a 'double Hilltopper' because she received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from St. Edward's. She states that one of her greatest personal accomplishments was "being able to complete my bachelors degree while juggling a full-time job, a husband and two teenagers."

Prior to TASBO, Santiago was the chief financial officer for the Round Rock Independent School District for 25 years and for the North East Independent School District in San Antonio for seven years. She received the Outstanding School Business Official of the Year Award in 1994.

Santiago served as chair of the TBASO Legislative Committee for 10 years and chair of the lead staff for the Texas School Alliance, a consortium of 24 of the largest school districts in Texas. St. Edward's University is an independent Catholic liberal arts university of 3,800 students in Austin. It was founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
