St. Edward's University College Democrats Host Political Event Event coincides with campus early voting

With one week remaining before the November general election, a group of St. Edward's University students are hosting an event to give Democratic candidates one last chance to campaign. On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the St. Edward's University College Democrats are hosting a Rally for Democrats and have invited all Austin-area Democratic candidates and elected officials to participate. The list of confirmed participants — which is expected to grow as the event and election draw nearer — currently includes Jorge Herrera, Texas John Kerry/John Edwards campaign director; incumbent District 51 State Representative Eddie Rodriguez; 200th Judicial District Court Judge Gisela Triana; Andy Brown, campaign manager for Congressman Lloyd Doggett; Mark Strama, candidate for District 50 state representative; Kelly White, candidate for District 40 state representative; and Greg Hamilton, candidate for Travis County Sheriff. Two university professors also will speak at the rally.

The event coincides with early voting at St. Edward's University. Registered voters may cast their ballot in the Ragsdale Center lobby between noon and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26. St. Edward's University College Democrats will provide free refreshments upstairs in Mabee Ballroom C to all community members who participate in the early voting on campus.

The St. Edward's University College Democrats is a chapter member of the College Democrats of America, the official student arm of the Democratic National Committee. A relatively new student organization, the club has more than 175 members who have participated in a variety of events to encourage active involvement in local and national politics. Since August, the College Democrats has coordinated voter registration drives, hosted debate parties and candidate information days, and planned the upcoming rally.
