St. Edward's University Welcomes New Consul General of Mexico

St. Edward's University President George E. Martin and Professor Rosario Green, chair of the Kozmetsky Center of Excellence in Global Finance, will host a welcome reception for The Honorable Jorge Guajardo, newly appointed consul general of Mexico in Austin. The invitation-only reception will afford Guajardo his first opportunity to become acquainted with university and community leaders — invited guests include university trustees and faculty, as well as Austin community and business leaders. Members of the Austin-area media are invited to speak with Consul General Guajardo prior to the formal reception.

In April, Guajardo was sworn in as consul general of Mexico in Austin, a presidential appointment. Guajardo holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. From 1994 to 1997, he worked in the Washington, D.C., offices of Hill and Knowlton and later Burson-Marsteller — the two largest public relations and public affairs firms in the world. From 1997 to 2000, Guajardo served as director of communications for the governor of Nuevo León. He is an active member of Mexican President Vicente Fox's National Action Party (PAN) and was a Mexican congressional candidate in 2003. Guajardo is married to Paula Sada de Guajardo and has a two year-old son also named Jorge.
