Former United Nations Official to Speak at St. Edward's
Goulding recently retired in October as acting warden of St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford, a position he held since 1997. Previously he served as the United Nations' under-secretary-general for Special Political Affairs (1996-1993) and under-secretary-general for Peacekeeping Operations (1993-1997). Before joining the United Nations, he served for 27 years in the British Diplomatic Service, mainly in the Middle East, northern Africa and in New York.
In 2002, a memoir of his seven years in charge of United Nations peacekeeping, entitled, Peacemonger, was published by John Murray in London. The following year an American edition of the book, including an additional chapter on the consequences of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, was published by the Johns Hopkins University Press.
