In celebration of the Christmas and New Year holidays, St. Edward’s University will be closed beginning at noon on Friday, Dec. 22 through Monday, Jan. 1. The university will reopen with a normal operating schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 2. And, if you are celebrating the season of giving and want to support the mission of St. Edward’s, make your gift by Dec. 31.

For your generous year-end gift to count toward the 2006 tax year, per IRS guidelines it must be postmarked no later than Dec. 30, 2006.  Please note that Dec. 31 is a Sunday and there will be no mail service. See the information below to ensure that your gift is counted in 2006.

Gifts made online
Gifts to St. Edward’s University that are made online by credit card and are received by noon CST on Dec. 31, 2006, will be processed in this calendar year for tax purposes. Any online gifts received after noon CST will be credited to 2007. Making a gift online only takes a few minutes.

Gifts made by mail
All gifts received by mail (excluding credit card payments received by mail Dec. 29-30) and postmarked no later than Dec. 30, 2006 will be credited in this calendar year for tax purposes.

If you would like to make a gift of stock, additional information is available online. Or call 512-416-5888 and leave a message. A university advancement staff member will return your call within 24 hours.

Tax-free IRA distributions
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 created a new charitable giving incentive for donors more than 70-and-a-half-years old.  Under the law, donors can make charitable gifts of up to $100,000 from their IRAs in 2006 and 2007 tax-free.  The opportunity to give through your IRA ends when the law expires Dec. 31, 2007.  Talk with your financial advisor to see if such a gift would benefit you.  Call 512-416-5888 if you would like to make such a gift to St. Edward’s and a university advancement staff member will return your call within 24 hours.

While we are closed
While the university is closed for the holidays, if you have a police, fire or medical emergency, call University Police at 512-448-8444.
If you are a member of the media requiring immediate assistance, contact University Police at 512-448-8444. Your request will be forwarded to the administrator on duty, who will return your call.
For all other inquiries, please contact the appropriate office on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Undergraduate classes resume on Monday, Jan. 8, and Graduate classes begin on Thursday, Jan. 11. New College and MLA start dates vary, so students should check the online course schedule.
