St. Edward's University Earns Best Investment in Europe Award

St. Edward’s University is the recipient of the Best Investment in Europe Award, presented at the World Investment Conference in La Baule, France. In fall 2008, St. Edward’s will officially launch a spectrum of educational programs in Angers, France at Universite Catholique de l’Ouest and Institut Bois-Robert. St. Edward’s University is one of only two American universities to establish a branch campus in France.

This conference award is one of only three that recognizes foreign companies and non-profits for their investments in Europe. Each year, the World Investment Conference, hosted by the Europe Foundation, attracts some 900 high-level international leaders who gather to understand the needs of international investors, and to develop transatlantic and trans-Mediterranean cooperation.

“St. Edward’s wants to stand out among U.S. comprehensive teaching universities and Catholic Colleges as a new model, where the majority of students will have an international experience,” said university president George E. Martin, who accepted the award in La Baule, France. “This opportunity in France marks significant progress towards that vision. This endeavor will bring more students to and from France, create more jobs, and ultimately address the need for a more knowledgeable workforce.”

The expansion to France is part of a Global Understanding Initiative that provides students with opportunities to see themselves in the context of a global community. Through this program, St. Edward's is committed to helping students demonstrate knowledge of politics, economics, culture and communication through a global framework and to participate in international experiences.
