The Catholic Church and Its Past Between Attack and Defense: The History of the Inquisition
Father Guy Bedouelle will present his lecture, "The Catholic Church and Its Past Between Attack and Defense: The History of the Inquisition" at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, in Mabee Ballrooms A&B, as part of the Most Reverend John McCarthy Lecture Series on the Catholic Church in the 21st century. The event is free and open to the public.
Bedouelle, Rector (President) Université Catholique de l'Ouest, entered the Dominican Order in 1965 after studying law and political science. A member from its inception of the editorial committee of the Revue Catholique Iinternationale, Communio, and editor of the journals Mémoire dominicaine and La Pierre d'Angle, he has also published a number of books on French and English humanism, on liberal Catholics of the 19th century, and on the relationship of the cinema to the spiritual.
St. Edward's created the lecture series to honor Bishop McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and to underscore the university's commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross Heritage.
