St. Edward's University Presents the McCarthy Lecture Series
On March 2 at 5 p.m., Dr. Kathleen Sprows Cummings will present her lecture, "Enlarging our Lives: Reflections on Faith, Feminism, and American Catholic History." The lecture will take place in Jones Auditorium as part of the Most Reverend John McCarthy Lecture Series on the Catholic Church in the 21st century. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Cummings will discuss how her personal identities as a Catholic and feminist have shaped her professional work as a teacher and historian. Emphasizing how important it is to integrate Catholic women's stories into American history, she will also discuss how the efforts of Catholic women in the past might inspire and challenge Catholic women today. Dr. Cummings is the Acting Director for the Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism at the University of Notre Dame.
St. Edward's created the lecture series to honor Bishop McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and to underscore the university's commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross Heritage.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Reception to follow the event. Valet parking is provided.
