THE FUNDRED PROJECT COMES TO ST. EDWARD'S UNIVERSITY

The Fundred Bill Pick-up Event will take place at the St. Edward's University Fine Arts Building on Monday March 8 beginning at 1 p.m. Participants can enjoy snack and music while making their own Fundred Bill and waiting for the armored truck to arrive.

The Fundred Dollar Bill Project is designed to raise awareness of the environmental threat of lead contaminated soil and collect the funds necessary for a remediation effort. Students and community members across the country are currently creating Fundred Dollar Bills, which are original, hand-drawn interpretations of $100 bills. Completed Fundreds are sent to regional Collection Centers.  The project aims to collect at least 3 million Fundreds, or the equivalent of $300 million, the estimated cost of making the soil in New Orleans lead-safe.

St. Edward's University is participating in this event as the host of the Annual TASA Conference on April 8-10, 2010 on "Art and Community." The Keynote Speaker for the conference, Mel Chin, is a famous artist and creator of the project.

In January 2010, an armored truck, retrofitted to run on used vegetable oil, will visit the St. Edward's campus to collect the bills for their transportation to Washington D.C. collection centers.

If you wish to participate in the Fundred Project, contact Laura Hollis-Hammonds at 512-492-3159 or lauraah@stedwards.edu.
