Mix and mingle with Health & Counseling Center staff members, learn about their services and enjoy refreshments. The staff members look forward to showing you their new space. Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win one of two Nintendo Wiis.

New Integrated Health & Counseling Center
Combining health and counseling services is a growing trend for universities throughout the country. St. Edward’s University is making this important transition to bring health and counseling under one roof.

Serving Students More Effectively
Conveniently located in Lady Bird Johnson Hall near the heart of campus, the university's new Health & Counseling Center will provide enhanced services for students.

"With the integration of the two centers, students will feel that all needs can be promptly addressed in a confidential and more efficient manner," says Selia Servin-López, assistant director of the Counseling Center. Merging health and counseling will improve the communication between each department and provide a holistic healthcare approach that reflects the St. Edward’s mission.

It Starts with Education
"Our goals are not only to address the acute symptoms a student brings into our center but to provide educational programs that prepare the student to cope, problem solve, and choose and live a healthy life," Servin-López says.

The center will provide more space and technology to accommodate the growing St. Edward’s community along with a spectrum of services that support students in three ways:

  • Health services provide a broad range of care - from treatment of minor acute illness and injuries to information about medications and medical conditions.
  • Counseling services include individual, couples and group counseling and psychiatric consultation when necessary.
  • Wellness services offer educational programs on relevant topics such as stress, anxiety and anger management, alcohol education and healthy lifestyle approaches.

Peace of Mind for Parents and Students
St. Edward’s recognizes that student’s physical and emotional health is a top priority, especially while away from home. The new Health & Counseling Center is one more reason parents can feel confident that their student’s wellbeing needs are being addressed.
