St. Edward's University Community Members Recognized for Exceeding 125 Service Challenge Goal
To commemorate the university's 125th anniversary, all members of the university community were challenged to help St. Edward's complete 75,000 hours of service—for the 125 Service Challenge—in 2010.
We are happy to report that we didn't just meet that goal. We exceeded it. St. Edward's University volunteered a total of 92,048 hours of service. Some of these hours were served around the world through programs like Alternative Spring Break and International Immersion trips. Others were served in the local Austin community. Many of our student-athletes contributed hours of their time, and other students participated in service learning opportunities.
Seventy-one individuals rose to an additional challenge: each one personally completed 125 hours of service. We congratulate the 50 students, six faculty members, seven staff members and eight alumni who each volunteered 125 or more hours of service. A special reception was held for these individuals on Feb.16, recognizing them for their outstanding contribution to the challenge.
Surpassing 75,000 hours of service in one year is truly a remarkable achievement—and our commitment to service continues into 2011 and beyond.
