University Federal Credit Union Provides $1.7 Million to St. Edward's for Renovation of Alumni Gym
St. Edward’s University is pleased to announce that a gift of $1.7 million from University Federal Credit Union will allow the university to renovate its Alumni Gym. This is the largest gift from a corporate entity in the university’s history. The building will be re-named as the University Federal Credit Union Alumni Gym.
With this gift to St. Edward’s, UFCU has contributed more than $2 million to the university since 1991. UFCU has provided generous gifts to fund scholarships, sponsor events, athletic programs and capital priorities such as the John Brooks Williams Natural Sciences Center.
In addition to providing banking and financial services, UFCU has gone above and beyond to provide for students, faculty, staff and alumni through:
- Internships for St. Edward’s University students interested in careers in business and/or finance
- Consumer education in personal finance matters for all members of the St. Edward’s University community (retirement information sessions, home-buying information for young alumni, personal finance “basics” for students)
The St. Edward’s Alumni Gym was first dedicated in May 1950. The building was completed in time for the graduating class of 1950 to have their commencement exercises held in the new gym. Although the building is no longer used for official athletic events, it is an iconic structure on campus and is an important part of the university’s cheerleading and dance programs and campus recreation.
