"Drawing From Nature" Art Exhibit at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve
St. Edward’s University students will exhibit their art collection tonight from a six-week course entitled “Drawing From Nature." This was the first course of its kind at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve.
Monday, July 2
Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve
805 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas 78746
Adjunct professor Sonya Menges said the main objective of the class was to “introduce students to observational and conceptual drawing by emphasizing contemporary and traditional two-dimensional and cross-disciplinary art making processes, concepts and materials.”
“The students and I approached the class more like an artist residency than a traditional studio class. At the beginning of each week we discussed a concept and formal approach to drawing, viewed imagery of contemporary artists, and at the end of the week held an intensive critique of the work,” said Menges.
A wide variety of work will be on display tonight ranging from drawing and painting to sculptural installation. The public is invited to attend the opening reception tonight, July 2 from 6:30 -8:30 p.m.
The exhibit will be on display until the end of August.
