St. Edward's University Participates in SXSWedu

Today kicked off the third annual SXSWedu conference and festival in Austin, Texas. Education is the focus of this conference, which runs through March 7 and is a precursor to the famed SXSW Interactive, Film and Music festival. The content of SXSWedu is designed to reach a diverse audience of educators, administrators, business, education-technology industry and policy leaders. This year’s keynote presenter is Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who leads the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation focused on global health and education.

St. Edward’s University’s residence life department presents on Wednesday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. in a session titled “Student living enhanced through social media.” Residence life associate director, Karen Gibson, and director, Margaret Garry, will lead the session.

The session focuses on why a strategic social media plan is crucial to student affairs professionals’ ability to keep students informed. Garry and Gibson will demonstrate how St. Edward’s University's Office of Residence life built a social media program that connects with students from very diverse backgrounds.

This year marks the first for the Future Plans College & Career Fair, a free event being hosted by SXSWedu. The college and career fair will provide area youth and their families with information and resources to address the challenges related to college and career readiness. St. Edward’s University’s office of undergraduate admissions will be in attendance providing valuable guidance and resource information to attendees.
